The U.S. Air Force SBIR Center of Excellence team and the AFWERX program have expanded their agreement with Onvector to deploy its innovative Plasma Vortex technology for treatment of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS forever chemicals) on U.S. Air Force (USAF) bases. These entities have awarded Onvector a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) “Strategic Funding Increase” modification to a current contract along with a concurrent “Phase III Other Transaction for Prototype” agreement.
In addition to widespread industrial and commercial use, PFAS forever chemicals are found in fire-fighting foam which has been routinely used for decades in military training exercises on air bases, making military installations among the most contaminated epicenters of the emerging PFAS problem.
Onvector will deploy its Plasma Vortex technology for enhanced groundwater remediation at USAF sites, provide training and support, as well as validate the performance of plasma in completely destroying PFAS in contaminated water.
This project is sponsored by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).
